About

Who we are.

Sapphire Core Institute is an independent nonprofit working to bring AI learning tools to under-resourced communities, and to better understand how people learn with AI.

Our mission

An independent organization, built for the long term.

Sapphire Core Institute is a Texas-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We help under-resourced communities learn with AI, and we research how people learn with AI, so the tools we bring to schools and libraries are actually useful.

Why we exist

Learning should reach further than it does.

Access to good learning is still uneven, and a lot of it comes down to where someone grows up. The barriers are practical ones: cost, distance, language, and too few hours in the day. Small gaps early on tend to grow into big ones later.

We think it’s a problem worth working on. When more people can learn well, all of us are better for it.

AI offers a real chance to help. It can give a student one-on-one support with their schoolwork whenever they need it, and with tools that run on local devices, it can do that even where internet is limited. We want to make sure that kind of help reaches the communities that need it most.

We’re a small, independent organization. We study how people learn with AI, we build tools based on what we find, and we aim to bring them to the schools and libraries that need them most. We’d rather do a few things well than many things in a hurry.

Our focus

Where we put our energy.

  • Learning with AI. Studying how people learn from AI, and how it can best help a student and support a teacher.
  • Access. Working to bring AI learning tools to under-resourced schools and libraries, including ones that run locally, without reliable internet.
  • Support for teachers. Building tools that give teachers a hand and free up more of their time for students.
  • Open and responsible. Sharing our methods and findings, and looking after the people our work involves, many of them kids.

Believe learning should reach further than it does? So do we.

Governance

How we’re run.

Sapphire Core Institute is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity, incorporated in Texas and recognized by the IRS under EIN 41-4847911. A Board of Directors oversees our mission, finances, and research ethics, and holds responsibility for the decisions that set our course.

As a public charity, we follow the reporting and governance standards that status requires, including annual filings with the IRS. We take seriously our responsibility to handle carefully whatever resources are entrusted to us, and to be clear about how they are used.

If you’d like to know more about how we’re governed or funded, please get in touch. We’re glad to share what we can.

Looking ahead

The work in front of us.

Our organization is established: our board is in place, our research and ethics practices are set, and our research is already underway. We’re now developing our first AI learning tools, including ones that run on local devices where internet is limited.

Next, we’ll put these tools in the hands of the schools, libraries, and educators we aim to serve, study how well they help, and share what we learn. We’re building for the long term, and we won’t promise more than we can deliver.

Working toward broader access to learning.
